5 simple ways to maximise your time in 2020

Something my Dad always said, was “Why put off for tomorrow what you can do today”.

This rings true for me even more so in today’s busy world.

I wanted to share some tips on how to make the best of your time and build some real momentum in 2020.

1. USE A DIARY
Probably not one you really want to hear, but to have something written down gives you a greater chance of completing it both efficiently and on time!  Electronic, hard copy – whatever floats your boat! Writing it down is the key message here.

 

2. TIME CHUNK YOUR DAY/WEEK
Block out 30 minutes, 1 hour, 2 hour etc. time slots to complete your important tasks and don’t get distracted by anything else in the meantime.  You’ll feel a great sense of satisfaction upon completion.

 

3. PLAN YOUR DAY/WEEK IN ADVANCE
Every Sunday night for about 30 minutes I sit down and plan my week. Then, at the start of each day, I create a short list within my diary. This gives complete clarity on what you want or need to get get done – and always remember, even the small milestones can add up to a very satisfying day, week or month.  It’s also a great way to ensures you don’t miss anything important!

 

4. URGENT V’S IMPORTANT
There are a lot of ‘urgent’ tasks that need to be completed each day that really, are not all that important. Really think about it. Work out what is ‘important’ on the daily relating to your job, your home life or your kids, and complete them first. The ‘urgent’ tasks will fit in after these ones just fine.

 

5. AVOID DOING MORE THAN 1 JOB AT A TIME
In the world of online activity, our brains are conditioned and wasted to check FB, listen to a podcast and prepare for a meeting all at the same time. We are so distracted, constantly multi-tasking, and rarely fully invested in just one thing. My advise, cut all other tasks out, and by time chunking effectively, you will become more efficient by completing just one task at a time, and you’ll also be doing it exceptionally well – especially us males 😉
